The Croatian government has decided to introduce as an emergency measure:
• a 3% "crisis tax" on income
• an increase in VAT by 1% 
• suspension of zero VAT rates

These changes came into force on 1st August 2009.

The "crisis tax" will apply until 31st December 2010 and may be payable by employees and self-employed workers with salaries over 3,000 kunas per month (approx EUR 409 at current market rate).
